Contiguous and Non - Contiguous Processorallocation Algorithms for K - Ary N - Cubes

چکیده
EEcient utilization of processing resources in a large, multiuser parallel computer depends on processor allocation algorithms that minimize system fragmentation. We propose three processor allocation algorithms for the k-ary n-cube class of parallel architectures, which includes the hypercube and multidi-mensional torus. The k-ary Partner strategy is a conventional contiguous processor allocation strategy that improves subcube recognition. The non-contiguous Multiple Buddy and Multiple Partner strategies lift the restriction of contiguity in order to address the problem of fragmentation associated with contiguous strategies. Simulations compare the performance of these three strategies with the performance of other k-ary n-cube allocation strategies, showing that non-contiguous allocation provides signiicantly increased system utilization by eliminating fragmentation.

Clustering of Short Read Sequences for de novo Transcriptome Assembly
Given the importance of transcriptome analysis in various biological studies and considering thevast amount of whole transcriptome sequencing data, it seems necessary to develop analgorithm to assemble transcriptome data. In this study we propose an algorithm fortranscriptome assembly in the absence of a reference genome. First, the contiguous sequencesare generated using de Bruijn graph with d...
متن کاملLatency and Bandwidth Requirements of Massively Parallel Programs: FFT as a Case Study
Many theoretical models of parallel computation are based on overly simplistic assumptions on the performance of the interconnection network. For example they assume constant latency for any communication pattern or innnite bandwidth. This paper presents a case study based on the FFT transpose algorithm, which is mapped on two families of scalable interconnection networks, the k-ary n-trees and...
متن کاملResource Placement with Multiple Adjacency Constraints in k-ary n-Cubes
The problem of placing resources in a k-ary n-cube (k > 2) is considered in this paper. For a given j 1, resources are placed such that each non-resource node is adjacent to j resource nodes. We rst prove that perfect j-adjacency placements are impossible in k-ary n-cubes if n < j < 2n. Then, we show that a perfect j-adjacency placement is possible in k-ary n-cubes when one of the following two...
متن کاملOn k-ary n-cubes: Theory and Applications
7 Many parallel processing applications have communication patterns that can be viewed as graphs called k-ary n-cubes, whose special cases include rings, hypercubes and tori. In this paper, 9 combinatorial properties of k-ary n-cubes are examined. In particular, the problem of characterizing the subgraph of a given number of nodes with the maximum edge count is studied. These 11 theoretical res...
متن کاملOn the Performance Merits of Bypass Channels in Hypermeshes and k-Ary n-Cubes
Low-dimensional k-ary n-cubes have been popular in recent multicomputers. These networks, however, suffer from high switching delays due to their high message distance. To overcome this problem, Dally has proposed a variation, called express k-ary n-cubes, with express channels that allow non-local messages to partially bypass clusters of nodes within a dimension. K-ary n-cubes are graph topolo...
